Personal Computers

The number of personal computers sold since 1989 has increased by a factor of four, with the total number installed annually exceeding 400,000 by 1994, when three out of 100 citizens owned a PC. In 1997, Chile imported 182,097 PCs, a 17.3 percent increase over 1996.

Market Highlights

Chile, although small, is one of the most developed and open economies in Latin America. The main suppliers, followed by Digital, Unisys, NCR, Olivetti, Dell and Hewlett-Packard. These ten leading brands compete for over 70 percent of the market.

In general, computer usage, particularly of personal computers, has become mainstream. They are seen anywhere and everywhere.
