This section includes some case studies on internationalisation.
- Internationalization of Japanese Cars reviews the growth and internationalisation of the Japanese car industry through the different phases. The growing demand for fuel-efficient Japanese cars in the 1970s provided Japanese manufacturers with opportunities to embark on full-scale internationalization strategies. Japanese car companies tied up with US companies. Joint ventures were also established with European manufacturers during this period. Further to their international joint venture initiatives, Japanese automobile manufacturers were also making plans to establish local production facilities, based mainly in the United States and Europe.
- Other examples- MNCs to TNCs reviews a few other well-known industries which have globalised and become transnational corporations. These include General Motors, Apple, Nissan, General Electric, Unilever and a few other car manufacturers.
- This chapter includes summaries on the Globalization Research Center, which is a developing network of contacts and information about doing business in an IT-enabled, global economy. Global Engineering Methodology Study, which investigates methods for improving the efficiency and quality of engineering design teams in geographically distributed contexts. A list of the available technologies for each group are shown in Table 3.
