- An overview of the US Department of Commerce's Globalizing Industrial Research and Development (released in September 1999). The Office of Technology Policy’s Asia-Pacific Technology Program has helped U.S. companies and researchers leverage foreign science and technology through the publication of high-quality technical assessments and studies, and its many other activities. This study, Globalizing Industrial Research and Development, is one such study providing U.S. organizations with the specialized information they need to make educated business decisions on technology-related questions. Current 1999 report expands and updates earlier study published in 1992. This is discussed in more detail in the chapter on Globalizing Industrial Research and Development.
- OECD has conducted various studies on internationalisation. Some of them are reviewed in the chapter on OECD reports on internationalisation. This report also analyses the linkages between the production and R&D activities of foreign affiliates in OECD countries, and of affiliates of domestic firms abroad, on a sectoral level. It highlights the need to reassess each country's potential for R&D and innovation, in the light of what is being done both within and beyond its borders. R&D statistics in the business sector in 1995 has also been tabulated as a reference. OECD 1998 report on R&D internationalization summarises the source of funds for R&D in the business enterprise sector (1995) which is presented in Table 1.
- US and Japanese MNC/TNCs' R&D internationalization compares the internationalisation in these two economies. Table 2 compares US and Japanese MNC/TNC's plan on overseas R&D.
